Southern Ruins & Waterfall
As we venture to Belize’s southernmost district, Toledo, the least developed region of Belize with pristine rainforests and cultural attractions. Join us on an adventure as we explore Nim Li Punit, a smaller Maya site well known for the large number of stelae found there. Board your air-conditioned van for a scenic hour + drive to the Mayan site of Nim Li Punit, mean “Large Hat” in the Kekchi Maya language. The site was so named due to a depiction on a Mayan stela of one of its rulers wearing a very large headdress. This Mayan Ruin also has a small museum where you can see some of the stelae with well preserved Mayan drawings and writing, as well as Mayan artifacts.
The site also has a ball court in the center of the complex and an observatory in one of the plazas. Entire Mayan site is shaded by a canopy of large trees, providing a comfortable environment for viewing this very interesting Mayan site. On the way back we then head to a close by waterfall where one will be able to enjoy the view of one of many breathtaking waterfalls located in the area. Bring along swimming clothes and take a refreshing dip in a lush tropical swimming hole.
